Golfer Sit Sixth at Edward Jones Shootout
The Penn State Behrend men’s golf team sits sixth out of seven teams after day one of the Edward Jones Shootout hosted by Carnegie Mellon on Saturday.
The Lions carded a 317 on the day, putting them 28 strokes behind the leader, Allegheny. The Gators fired a 289, followed by Carnegie Mellon in second (298) and Washington & Jefferson in third (300).
Behrend was led by Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview). He tallied a 39 on the way out and 36 coming in for a team-low 75 to tie for 11th place. Roman Klaric (Hermitage, PA/West Middlesex) was also in the 70's for the Lions, finishing with a 79 (42-37) and 25th overall.
Third on team and tied for 30th was Nick VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf). The sophomore had a 39 on the front nine and 41 on the back for total of 80. Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) ended with an 83 (40-43) to tie for 36th place heading into day two.
Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) was the fifth golfer for Behrend. He posted a 45 and then a 39 on the final nine holes for an 84 (T-39).
The Lions return to action tomorrow for day two of the Edward Jones Shootout. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m.
