Men's Golf Wins Fifth Straight AMCC Championship

WARREN, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team became the first team in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) history to win five straight conference championships with a two-day total of 637 at the Avalon Lakes & Country Club on Monday.

The Lions also captured their seventh conference title overall with a score of 317 on day two to post a 21 stroke advantage over second-place Penn State Altoona. The Altoona Lions finished runner up with a 658 and Pitt-Greensburg placed third with a 670.

Behrend earned the AMCC's automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament in the spring. The championship will be held on May 10-13 in Rochester, NY.

Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) was the runner-up medalist for the tournament. He birdied three holes including two on the front nine for a 35 and then tallied a 41 on the back to card a team-low score of 76 for a 153 total. Shindledecker was two strokes shy of first-place Javon Trout of Pitt-Greensburg who was the individual with a 151.

Cody Stinson (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) claimed fourth overall with a score of 161 for the tournament. He registered an 83 on the final 18 holes today with a 42 on the first nine holes and a 41 on the 42 on the back.

The 2014 AMCC Golfer of the Year, Nicholas VanDamia (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), took three strokes off yesterday's total to finish eighth overall with a 163 total. He earned an 80 (39-41) on the final day.

Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) improved from an 86 on day one to card a 78 (39-39) today for a two-day score of 164 and tie for ninth place after tying for 19th on Sunday. Behrend nearly had all five golfers in the Top 10. The final golfer, Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) tied for 13th overall. He tallied an 87 after earning an 82 on the first day.
