Golfers Finish Fourth at CMU Spring Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team had three players in the Top 20 to lead the Lions to a fourth-place finish at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Invitational held at Longue Vue Golf Club on Wednesday.

The Tartans won their own invitational with a score of 304 behind individual medalist George Qian (74). Point Park was second with a team total of 317, while St. Vincent was third with a 324.

Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) was the top golfer for Behrend. He carded a 42 on the front nine and a 39 on the back for an 81 overall to tie for 14th place. Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) fired an 83 (42-41) on the day to finish 17th and Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) tied for 18th with an 84 for the 18-hole course (42-42).

Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) was fourth on the team and 29th overall, carding a 92 (49-43). Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst), the final golfer for the Lions, tallied a 45 on the way out and 49 on the back for a 94 to place 31st.

The Lions return  to action on Saturday at the Edward Jones Shootout hosted by Carnegie Mellon.
