Men's Golf Heads to Rochester for NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team will compete at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships this week at the Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club, in Rochester, New York.

St. John Fisher and the Monroe Sports Commission will be hosting the 72-hole championship from May 10-13. The Lions are paired with Grove City and Babson to begin the competition tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. at the Mendon G.C. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.

The Lions are making their sixth overall and fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning their fifth consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title this fall. Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) was the runner-up medalist at the AMCC Championships with a two-day total of 153. Joining Shindledecker will be Nicholas VanDamia (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), Cody Stinson (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek), Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) and Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep).

A total of 210 participants will compete at the 2016 championships. Behrend was one of 33 teams to be awarded automatic qualification for the championships.
