Strong Second Half Powers Allegheny to Win Over Lions

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Two unanswered goals in the second half by Allegheny was just enough to defeat Penn State Behrend 2-1 in men's soccer action on Monday night.

Despite getting a 1-0 lead in the first half, the Lions (4-6-1, 2-1 AMCC) offense went quiet as the Gators were able to comeback for the non-conference victory.

Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) was able to find Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) who beat the goalie for his team leading ninth goal to put Behrend up 1-0. Brower crossed the ball from the near side where Gamble was able to head it to the back of the net. The Lions would take the 1-0 lead into halftime where coming into the game they were 3-2 when leading at the break.

Just under seven minutes into the second half, Allegheny answered with a goal to tie the game at 1-all.  The defenses dominated for nearly forty minutes after the game-tying goal. Neither team was able to get much going as the two goalies combined for eight saves with Chris Bolea (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) recording five for Behrend.

With the half winding down, the Gators made the most of a final opportunity. At the 84:35 mark, David DelGreco netted the game winner.   The Lions could only manage one more shot in the final minutes of the contest as Allegheny held on for the victory.

Behrend will be back in action on Saturday.  The Lions will take on Franciscan at Family First Sports Park at 1 p.m.
