ERIE, Pa. - Junior forward Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) netted his 34th career goal at the 74:49 mark of the second half to break the all-time school record for career goals en route to helping the Lions defeat Hilbert 3-0 on Wednesday in men's soccer action.

Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) led the ball to Gamble up the middle who was able to beat the goalie to break the record held by former Behrend player Jerry Tortella.

The Lions (8-6-1, 6-1 AMCC) used a heavy offensive attack to control the ball for most of the game.  Behrend held an advantage of 28-5 in shots and 7-2 in corner kicks.

Midway through the opening half, Eric Hackworth (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) put the Lions on the board with his second goal of the season.  Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) set up a corner kick perfectly for Hackworth to out jump everyone for the header to the back of the net. The game would remain 1-0 for the rest of the first half.

As the second half was underway, Behrend struck again.  Just over seven minutes into the half, Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) found an open Aaron Meehl (North East, PA/North East) who chipped in a shot from the box for his sixth goal of the year to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

For over 20 minutes Behrend held onto the 2-0 lead until Gamble knocked in his team leading 12th goal.  Freshman Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) made two saves in net to secure the team's third straight shut out and fifth straight conference win.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday for a game against Mount Aloysius at 1 p.m.
