ERIE, Pa. - Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) scored three goals to help the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team defeat Westminster 3-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Gamble got the Lions (5-1) out to a good start in the 28th minute. Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) dished the ball to Gamble in the box who was able to beat the keeper for his third of the season. Gamble kept it going just six minutes later when Kevin Vock (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) led a great ball to the senior. Once again, Gamble found the back of the net to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
In the 71st minute Gamble capped off the scoring with his third of the day. Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) led the ball through the box to Gamble who crossed over the defender and fired a shot past the goalie.
Behrend did not need much though, with a strong defensive effort and Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) between the pipes. For the third straight game, the defense did not allow a goal with Wassell making four saves.
The Lions will be back in action Tuesday at Case Western. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
