Lions Roll Past Franciscan in AMCC Opener

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men 's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals en route to defeating Franciscan 7-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (7-1) netted five second half goals to cruise to their seventh straight victory.

Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) and Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) each netted goals in the first half to get Behrend out to a fast start.  The Lions' stingy defense held the Barons scoreless, holding onto a 2-0 halftime lead.

With the second half underway, Behrend's offense stayed hot.  Gamble found the back of the net twice within the first 12 minutes of the second.  The hat trick was Gamble's second in the past three games.

Jake Szul (North East, PA/North East), Charlie Sestito (Beaver, PA/Beaver), and Jay Jarrett (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) each contributed their first goals of the season as well.

Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) made four saves between the pipes to preserve the shut-out.

The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday at D'Youville at 7 p.m.
