PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team defeated La Roche 2-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind for the first time since September 7, the Lions (9-1) scored two unanswered goals to earn the victory.
The Redhawks struck first within the first ten minutes of the game. Bryan Weimerskirch scored off a rebound to put La Roche up, 1-0.
Just over one minute later, Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Bulter) answered to tie the contest at 1-all. Gamble beat the keeper for his 11th goal of the season. Eric Hackworth (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) earned the assist on the play.
With the score still tied, Gamble came through once again to give Behrend the lead. Gamble scored his second goal of the game in the 31st minute. The Lions held onto the lead for the remainder of the first half, leading 2-1 at the break.
Despite out shooting the Redhawks 7-4 in the second half, Behrend was unable to find the back of the net. However, the Lions' defense stepped up and kept La Roche off the board to secure the 2-1 victory.
Behrend will be back in action on Wednesday to host AMCC rival Medaille at 3:30 p.m.
