ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team defeated Pitt-Bradford 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play.
With the victory, the Lions (14-2) set a school record for most regular-season wins.
Behrend came out fast with seven shots on goal in the first 15 minutes. In the 20th minute, Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) finally got the Lions on the board. Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) played a cross just in front of the goalie to Gamble who volleyed the ball past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, Behrend found the back of the net again. This time, Eric Hackworth (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) headed the ball between the pipes off a corner kick. Michael Liebdzinski (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) earned the assist. The Lions took the 2-0 advantage into the break.
In the second half, Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) sparked the Behrend offense. In the 48th minute, Belack scored his ninth goal of the season and in the 59th minute he earned an assist on Gamble's second score of the contest.
That was all the scoring the Lions would need, holding the Panthers to just one shot the entire game.
Behrend will be back in action on Saturday to host Penn State Altoona at 3 p.m.
