ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team fell to Medaille 1-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship game on Saturday afternoon.
In a defensive battle, the Mavericks were finally able to net the game winner with less than 11 minutes to play in the second half.
Medaille was able to fire 15 shots in the first half, but a strong Behrend defense kept the Mavericks off the board. Freshman goalie Will Cole (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) made six saves in the first half, keeping the game tied at 0-0 at the break.
The second half saw much of the same action as the first 45 minutes with each team relying heavily on their defense. Both the Lions and Medaille took five shots in the second half, but it was not until the 79th minute that the Mavericks broke the tie.
George Tor beat a charging keeper to net the game's first goal. In the final 10 minutes, Behrend had a couple of good offensive opportunities inside the box, but were stifled by the Mavericks defense.
The Lions (16-4) will now wait on a postseason bid to be announced on Monday.
