ERIE, Pa. – Chris Cvecko scored an open-net goal and Devon Belew added an insurance score to lift Case Western Reserve (2-0-3) to a 2-0 win over the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team Tuesday night.
The Spartans got on the board when Cvecko, after colliding with Behrend goalie Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg), was able to right himself and punch it in the open net. Logan Glosser kept the ball alive for Case Western after Wassell initially knocked it away.
The Spartans would make it 2-0 when Belew took a beautiful centering pass from Jacob Grindel and put it in the corner of the net.
Despite controlling the tempo for much of the game, the Lions (4-2-1) were shutout for the first time this season. Behrend outshot the Spartans 13-8 and held Case Western to just two shots in the second half.
Garrett Fiscus (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) won nearly every 50-50 ball kicked his way to keep the Lions within striking distance. The loss was the Behrend's first at home in 2013, falling to 3-1 at Behrend Field.
The Lions will host nearby rival Allegheny on Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m.
