Lions Defeat Westminster 2-1 in Double OT

ERIE, Pa. - The Behrend  Lions men's soccer team defeated Westminster in double overtime Wednesday night by a score of 2-1 thanks to a game winning goal by Christian Harrington (Warren, PA/Warren).

Harrington's heroics came in the 102nd minute when Westminster goalkeeper Michael Girata misplayed the ball and Harrington was able to chip the ball past three defenders covering the net.

The Lions (2-1) took the early lead thanks to a beautiful shot by Mike Worthy (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) that found its way into the back of the net taken from 25 yards out at the 23:45 mark.

Westminster tied the score early in the second half when Marcus Gurgiolo made a move to get past defenders and put the ball in the back of the net in 60th minute.

Both teams had multiple opportunities to score the go ahead goal late in the second half but neither could get past the solid defense displayed by both squads.

Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski ) had the best opportunity to win the game for Behrend when he saw his header miss just right of the net with just six minutes left to play.

The win marks Behrend's sixth straight victory over the Titans dating back to 2009.

The Lions will face Oberlin on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
