Three Men's Soccer Players Named to Great Lakes All-Region Team

ERIE, Pa. – Three Penn State Behrend men's soccer players were selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Continental Tire NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Team.

Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned first team honors while Mike Worthy (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) was selected to the third team. All three players were instrumental in the Lions run to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship (AMCC) and NCAA Tournament berth.

Belack was a dynamo offensively and earned AMCC Player of the Year honors after leading the conference with 48 points and 17 goals. He also ranked in the Top Ten in the national rankings in numerous statistical categories including assists per game (.64), game-winning goals (7), total assists (14) and total points (48). During the 2014 season Belack tied the program's single-season points record and became the program's all-time leader in assists. He finished his career in second place on the all-time points list and in career goals.

Earning AMCC Defensive Player of the Year Honors, Wassell was solid in the net for the Behrend squad. Wassell posted a 15-3 record, 0.61 goals against average and blanked nine opponents. He allowed just 11 goals in 20 starts, the second fewest all-time in program history (minimum of 10 games).

Worthy was the backbone of the Lions defense and locked down opposing offenses. He started every game this season and chipped in two goals and an assist. As a team, Behrend allowed only 16 goals in 22 games and recorded 14 shutouts including a stretch of five straight from October 4 through 17.

The Lions have won back-to-back conference titles and look to claim their eighth overall championship in 2015.
