Lions Win Season Opener Against Baldwin Wallace

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend Lions kicked off their season with a win, defeating Baldwin Wallace 2-1 in the first round of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) scored two goals while Sean Gallagher (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) added two assists to help the Lions (1-0) advance to the championship game on Sunday afternoon at 2:30.

Patrick O'Malley scored the lone goal for the Yellow Jackets (1-1) to tie the game at 1-all in the second half before Crivelli would notch his second goal of the game to put Behrend back in front 2-1.

Crivelli started the scoring early, notching a goal in the fifth minute when he poked a through ball from Gallagher past the Baldwin Wallace goalie to put the Lions on top 1-0. After a back and forth first half, the Yellow Jackets tied the game just 3:22 into the second stanza with a goal from O'Malley.

Behrend then broke the tie once again when Sean Gallagher beat a defender to the end line and sent in a cross to Crivelli, who finished the ball for the game winner at the 80:38 mark.

Mike Worthy (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Evan Augustine (South Park, PA/South Park) held down the Lion's back line for the remainder of the game leaving Baldwin Wallace without an opportunity to tie the game once again.

The Lions are looking to capture the HLM Championship for the second time in the last three years.
