ERIE, Pa. – Jaisen Clark scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute to lead SUNY Geneseo past Penn State Behrend 2-1 in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament championship game Sunday afternoon.
The Knights (3-0) scored the final two goals of the game, one to tie the game at 1-all in the first half and another to take the lead in the second half to secure the win.
The Lions (1-1), who were cut short of the championship for the second year in a row, got off to a quick start with a diving header goal from Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) at the 9:37 mark in the first half off of a cross from Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley).
Geneseo answered 17 minutes later when Clark sent in a cross that was headed in by Matt D'Amico to tie the game at one. The Knights then took the lead at the 62:50 mark when Clark scored off of a cross from Reidis Lata which would turn out to stand as the game winner.
Behrend and Geneseo battled for the remainder of the second half as each team had opportunities to score another goal. With 1:30 left the game, Sam McSherry (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) powered a header on frame that was stopped by Logan Calvey in net for the Knights.
The Lions are back in action on Wednesday night at home against Grove City at 7:00 p.m.
