ERIE, Pa. – Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) scores in the 56th minute to lead Penn State Behrend past Grove City 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The Lion's (2-1) broke a scoreless tie 10 minutes into the second half when Crivelli slotted the ball past the Wolverines (2-2) goal keeper off of a cross from Kevin Vock (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette). Behrend has now won four straight meetings with Grove City.
The first half was filled with chances by both teams as neither could find the back of the net. With just over 15 minutes left in the first half, Crivelli had a chance to put the Lions on top but pushed his shot just wide from inside the penalty area.
Four minutes later, the Wolverines could not capitalize off a corner when Will Cole (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) made an initial save off a shot from Seth Lowe followed by another shot by David Wurmlinger that was saved off the goal line by defender Evan Augustine (South Park, PA/South Park).
Behrend freshman Dakota Lange (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) had a near breakaway opportunity with just eight minutes left in the first half, but a Grove City defender stepped in before he could get his shot off.
Cole earned his first shutout of the season in net, making three saves in the win while the Lion's back line prevented the Wolverines from getting the equalizer.
Behrend travels to play in the Fredonia Tournament this weekend. Its next game is Friday, September 11 at 6 p.m. against the Blue Devils.
