ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team edged Fredonia 4-2 in the Blue Devil Classic Friday night.
Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area), Nick Stewart (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) and Sam McSherry (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) all netted goals for the Lions to secure their third win of the season.
The Blue Devils (0-4) got on the board early, scoring 1:10 into the game off a shot by Parker Healy. Behrend (3-1) quickly answered when Crivelli scored five minutes later. Dziadosz added a second goal at the 24:39 mark off an assist from Christian Harrington (Warren, PA/Warren Area) to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage headed into halftime.
Behrend added two more quick goals when Mike Worthy (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) assisted Stewart in the 55th minute and McSherry tallied another in the 59th to take a 4-1 advantage.
Goalie Colton Smith (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and the Lion's back line did well to minimize damage by only allowing two goals on 17 Fredonia shots. Smith made five saves in the winning effort.
The Blue Devils cut the deficit to two when Joey Vucic added a goal in the 76th minute, but it was too little too late as Behrend held on to capture the victory.
The Lions play again tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. when they take on Buffalo State at Fredonia.
