ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team won its conference opener over Penn State Altoona by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Senior Nick Stewart (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) got the Lions (7-1-1) on the board early when he scored five minutes into the game off an assist from Christian Harrington (Warren, PA/Warren Area) to hand Altoona (5-1) its first loss of the season.
Both teams battled for the remainder of the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net and Behrend took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Behrend outshot Altoona 14-3 in the second half, but Altoona was able to score first to tie the game in the 75th minute off a goal by Colton Wassan. He headed the ball past Behrend goalie Colton Smith (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) to make it 1-all.
The Lions regained the lead when Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Harrington scored on the ensuing penalty at the 86:34 mark to take a 2-1 lead. Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) scored two minute later in the 89th minute to seal the deal for Behrend and take home a 3-1 victory.
The Lions are back in action on Tuesday to take on Hilbert at home for a 5 p.m. start.
