GREENSBURG, Pa. – Nick Stewart (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) scores his first career hat trick to help the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team take down Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action Saturday afternoon.
The Lions' (13-1-1, 7-0 AMCC) extended their season winning streak to 10 games. This win is also their 25th consecutive win against conference opponents, including playoffs. That marks the longest streak in AMCC history.
Behrend's defense was strong once again, holding the Bobcats (2-11-1, 1-6 AMCC) to only three shots and two corners. They also outshot the Pitt-Greensburg 28-3 during the game, 14 of which were on goal.
The Lions started the scoring early when Stewart netted his first at the 1:36 mark. He was able to handle the ball off a rebounded shot and put it past goalie Reese Laurel for the only goal of the first half.
Stewart extended Behrend's lead when he tallied his second goal in the 68th minute. Stewart was in the right place at the right time once again. He was able to find the ball off another rebound and find the bottom right corner for the goal.
The Bobcats cut their deficit in half in the 79th minute when Brian Koerber was able to head a cross from Mike Mircea into the Lions' net.
Behrend got that goal right back in the 89th minute when Stewart took a long shot that went over Laurel and found the back of the net for his third goal of the game. Kevin Vock (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) recorded his third assist of the season. With Stewart's three goals, he has now scored 10 goals in his last nine games and has 11 total goals on the season.
The Lions are back in action Wednesday to host D'Youville at 5 p.m.
