Men's Soccer Takes Down John Jay, 5-0

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team exploded on offense friday afternoon, defeating John Jay, 5-0 at the College of Staten Island.

Five different players scored in the match, fueling the Lions (2-1-1) offense. Nolan Beresford (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield), Ryan Colagiovanni (Monongahela, PA/Ringgold), and Ryan Segar (Athens, PA/Athens Area) each recorded their first career goal.

In the fifth minute of the game, senior forward Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) dribbled past a pair of Bloodhound (1-3) defenders and found the back of the net to give Behrend the early lead. Kyle Beckett (Suffolk, VA/Kings Fork) tallied his first assist of the season, delivering a cross to Beresford who chipped the ball over John Jay goalie Alexandros Taliotis, putting Behrend up 2-0 going into the half.

Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) wasted no time to start the second half, finishing on a cross from Crivelli that put the Lions up 3-0 at the 50:31 mark.  

Colagiovanni exteded the Behrend lead in the 77th minute, taking a shot from 25 yards out that found its way past Taliotis.

Five minutes later, Segar put the nail in the coffin for the Lions, finishing on a cross from freshman James Young (Murryville, PA/Franklin Regional). Young recorded his first career point on the pass.

Behrend outshot John Jay 27-4. 21 of the Lions' shots reached net opposed to only one for the bloodhounds.

The Lions will be back in action this Sunday, September 11, taking on the College of Staten Island. Game time is slated for 11 a.m.
