Lions Win Fifth Straight In Win Over D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY - The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in conference play Wednesday evening with a 3-1 victory over D'Youville.

The Spartans (0-10, 0-2 AMCC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the 7th minute before three unanswered goals from the Lions (7-1-2, 2-0 AMCC) put D'Youville away. Three different Behrend players scored in the contest while outshooting the Spartans 30-3.

In the 7th minute, D'Youville forward Hunter Sherman scored on a chip shot to make the score 1-0. Behred responded twice late in the first half to make it 2-1 going into halftime. 

Jared Myers (Cranberry, Township, PA/Seneca Valley) struck first, finishing a rebound off a shot from Anton Benedikt (Madison, NJ/Madison) in the 42nd minute. Minutes later, Benedikt took the lead for the Lions when his header beat goalkeeper Peter Petruzzo. This was the eventual game-winner.

Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) expanded on the Behrend lead in the 75th minute. Senior midfielder Sean Gallagher (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) delivered a cross from the left side where Dziadosz put a one-touch shot past Petruzzo in the lower left corner.

The Lions will be back on the road Sunday, October 2 when they travel to Mt. Aloysius for conference play. Start time is 2 p.m.
