ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's soccer battled back, scoring three second-half goals to defeat Geneva 3-1 on Thursday night.
After going down early, the Lions (5-3) slashed three unanswered goals late in the second-half to beat the Golden Tornadoes (4-2-1).
The offensive game started early for Geneva when David McKinley turned in the box and buried his first goal of the season to give them a 1-0 lead.
It wasn't until the 70:49 mark when defender Andrew Mastovich (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) muscled off a Golden Tornado from a Zhafar Dzhabarov (Erie, PA/Central) corner kick, scoring his first career goal.
Just over eight minutes later, Dzhabarov side volleyed a shot over top of the goalkeeper off of a Ryan Maurer (Cranberry Twp. PA/Seneca Valley) cross, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Lions.
With about five minutes left to play, Richard Blanchard (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) put the icing on the cake when he beat a Geneva defender on the goal line, finalizing the score 3-1.
The Lions open up conference play this Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
