GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team won its conference opener over Pitt-Greensburg by the score of 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (6-3) started conference play strong, converting on three corner kicks to hand the Bobcats (2-5-1) their first conference loss.
About 20 minutes into the game, sophomore Andrew Mastovich (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) started the scoring by finishing a shot near post off of a corner kick, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Mastovich struck again at the 31:17 mark, volleying a shot past the goalkeeper from a Dakota Lange (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) corner, notching his second goal of the game.
Around the 70th minute, Ryan Segar (Athens, PA/Athens Area) cleaned up a loose ball inside the 18 yard box to make the score 3-0.
Captain Josh Kolarac (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) and Mastovich led the Lion's defensive play to hold Pitt-Greensburg to only two shots the entire game, keeping the Bobcats without a shot in the first half.
Behrend will be back in action at home this Tuesday when they take on D'Youville at 5 p.m.
