Dzhabarov Nets Game-Winner Against D'Youville

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team posted their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) shut out, defeating D'Youville 1-0 on Tuesday evening.

The Lions (7-3, 2-0 AMCC) kept the pressure on the entire game, holding a 19-2 shot advantage and extending their all-time undefeated win streak to 10 games against the Spartans (1-7-1, 0-2 AMCC). Senior Zhafar Dzhabarov (Erie, PA/Central) tallied the lone goal and his second game winner of the season at the 81:06 mark.

The only goal of the game started in the 81st minute when Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) rifled a shot off the cross bar that bounced to Nick Schwarzel (South Park, PA/South Park).

After Schwarzel headed the back in the box to keep it alive, Dzhabarov followed it into the crease of the goal and scooted it into the back on the net.

With 20 seconds remaining, the Spartans were given one last corner kick. D'Youville, throwing all hands on deck, sent goalkeeper Kyle Dick in the mix in hopes of evening the score. The Lions defense remained impenetrable clearing the ball from their end of the field to secure the win.

D'Youville had one good scoring opportunity about 28 minutes left in the second half when Hunter Sherman gathered a loose ball for a breakaway.

Goalkeeper Chris Ralph (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) kept his feet moving as the striker approached, allowing him stop the only scoring chance he faced.

Behrend will face Mt. Aloysius for another conference matchup this Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
