Lions, Mounties Collide In AMCC Game of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team battles Mount Aloysius on Saturday, Oct. 7 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Game of the Week. This game follows the Behrend women's soccer game against the Mounties and will begin at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Behrend News & Notes:

* The Lions picked up a shutout victory, 5-0, over Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday
* Senior Tyler Vandemerwe (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) deposited the ball in the net off a pass from Johnathan Swann (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) in the 10th minute to begin the scoring for the Lions
* Behrend capitalized off a foul in the box from the Panthers with a penalty kick score from Justin Hockenberger (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) in the 16th minute
* Mason Le (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) gave the Lions a 3-0 advantage going into halftime with his second goal of the season
* The Lions sixth win of the season and third conference triumph was capped off by scores from Blake Cooper (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) and Cole Thomas (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) in the first 15 minutes of the second half
* Cooper's five goals and team-high seven assists are good for the team lead in points (17), followed by Swann's team-high six goals for 13 points.
* The Lions defense notched their fourth shutout of the year, holding Pitt-Bradford to only one shot and two corner kicks
* Since the start of conference play, Behrend has outscored its opponents, 25-2

Meet the Opposition:

* Mount Aloysius comes in this weekend with a 7-1-3 and a conference best 4-0 in AMCC play, defeating La Roche on Wednesday, 5-1
* The Mounties lone loss of the season came at Kenyon, 2-1, earlier in the season
* Juan Camacho leads the with eight assists and is second in goals (seven) and points (22). Louis Bez is second on the team with five goals and six assists for 16 points, followed by Sean Barrant's three goals and three assists (nine points)
* Goalkeeper Luke Priestley has started 10 games and made 35 saves. Currently, Priestley leads the AMCC in save percentage (.854) and goals-against average (0.63)
* The Mounties were selected as the runner-up in the 2023 AMCC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, one spot behind Behrend
* Camacho and Priestley were named Preseason Players to Watch as they were both named to the All-AMCC Second Team last season, along with Sean Barrant. Defender Curtis Brewer notched third team honors a season ago
