Lions Down St. Vincent; Kachurick Sets Team Record

ERIE, Pa. – Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) and Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) each won a pair of individual events to lead Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team past St. Vincent 180-93 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Kachurick won the first 1m with five dives (197.95) and the second 1m event of six dives (319.35) for a combined score of 517.30 to reset the team record he broke last year with a 426.85 total.

Altemose swam a season-best 2:03.92 to win the 200 butterfly, before claiming the 200 backstroke in 2:07.72. Jake DesRoches (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) places second in the 200 back in 2:08.87.

Pritchard was also a double winner. He won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.20) in the first time swimming the event this season. Pritchard touched first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.47.

After capturing the first three events as a team, Simon picked up win number four in the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 54.55. He collected his second victory in the 100 freestyle, swimming his best time of 49.85 just .02 faster than Zach Ligus of St. Vincet. Simon also joined Altemose, Jake Sherk (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) and Everett Sargent (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) in the first-place 200 medley relay (1:40.74).

Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) posted a 29 second edge in the 1000 freestyle to win with a time of 10:31.86. He also second in the 200 fly (2:04.85).

Hunter Backenstose (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) edged Matt Linebaugh in the 50 free. Backenstose won in 22.99 while Linebaugh was close behind in 23.19.

The final win belonged to Brendan Miller (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) in the 100 butterfly. He hit the wall in 55.14 for his best time this season.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday against Gannon. Meet time is 6 p.m.
