Altemose Leads Behrend Past Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) was a triple individual winner to lead the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team past Washington & Jefferson 160-137 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Not only did Altemose win three events, but he also joined Daniel Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford), Dane Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) and Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) to capture the 200 medley relay in 1:40.20 to start the meet.

Altemose went on to win the 100 butterfly (54.72), the 200 fly (2:03.84) and 200 backstroke (2:03.42) for the Lions.

In the 100 and 200 breaststroke, Pritchard led the way in both events while Jake Sherk (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) and Garrett Wagner (State College, PA/State College) each took second and third in each, respectively. Pritchard touched in 1:04.96 in the 100 and 2:24.04 in the 200.

Simon also collected an individual win on the day, posting a winning time of 54.36 in the 100 backstroke. He then took second in the 100 free (50.53) and third in the 400 IM (4:44.08).

Andrew Opalewski (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:54.11) and Dombrosky was third in 1:54.96. Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) tallied the top Behrend times in the 1650 freestyle (17:44.48) and in the 500 free (5:08.87) for second in both.  

Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) came out on top in the one-meter diving with a score of 266.25 and took second in the three-meter competition with a 214.30 total.

Mong, Opalewski, Dombrosky and Josh Schwab (Bradford, PA/Bradford) closed the meet with a second place in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:35.84.

The Lions return to action on Friday at Pitt-Bradford. Meet time is 5 p.m.
