Behrend Swims Past Baldwin Wallace
Clay Altemose, Dan Simon and Javier Solivan were triple winners to lead Penn State Behrend past Baldwin Wallace 182-106 in non-conference men’s swimming and diving action on Saturday.
BEREA, Ohio – Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge), Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) and Javier Solivan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/UHS) were triple winners to lead Penn State Behrend past Baldwin Wallace 182-106 in non-conference men's swimming and diving action on Saturday.
Simon set two season-best times to win the 100 back (53.45) and 50 free (22.43). Altemose was first in the 100 and 200 fly. His 100 butterfly time of 53.56 was a season best, while he clocked in at 2:05.16 in the 200 butterfly. Solivan took two individual events, winning the 200 free in a season-best time of 1:47.78 and earning first in the 200 IM in 2:06.27.
All three combined with Hunter Backenstose (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) won the 400 free relay in 3:22.40.
Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) picked up two individual wins for the Lions. He first recorded a season-best time of 10:40.07 in the 1000 free and then won the 500 free (5:06.13).
Behrend posted three more first-place finishes. Two belonged to diver Andrew Neder (Erie, PA/Fairview). The sophomore tallied a season-best score of 212.60 in the 1-meter for five dives and also won the 1 meter for six dives with a 128.80 total.
Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.92. He also had a season-best time of 2:25.21 in the 200 breaststroke for second place.
Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Eric Peirce (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) each had two second-place finishes. Mitcheltree was second in the 1000 free (10:45.32) and beat his season-best time by 12 seconds and then was runner up in the 200 fly (2:06.09).
Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Gannon for its first home meet, beginning at 5 p.m.
