GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team is in first place with 272 points at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships at the conclusion of day two, a 170-point lead over second place Pitt-Bradford.

Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) set four more records for the Lions, beginning in the 100 backstroke in the preliminaries. His NCAA "B" cut time of 51.02 set a team, AMCC open and meet record. In the finals, he slashed his previous record from earlier with a new "B" cut time of 50.78 to win the 100 backstroke.

The sophomore also broke the program's 50 back record in the opening leg of the 200 medley relay. He clocked with a record time of 23.23, paving the way for the team of Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Everett Sargent (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) to win the event in an NCAA qualifying "B" cut time of 1:32.48. That time also set a new team, AMCC open and meet record.

Altemose erased his old team, AMCC open and meet record with a new time of 51.14 to win the 100 butterfly, while Javier Solivan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/UHS) took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:42.92). Freshman Drew Werner (Hampton, PA/Hampton) finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.66.

Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) and Eric Peirce (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) were the top finishers in the 400 IM for the Lions. Mong won with a time of 4:23.03 and Peirce was runner up in 4:28.69.

In the 100 breaststroke, Pritchard touched first in 1:00.04 to be named the champion and Sargent claimed second in 1:00.24.

Behrend made it six straight victories on the day, winning the 800 free relay thanks to Solivan, Mong, Werner and Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) with a time of 7:10.02.

The Lions finish the championships tomorrow with the preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m.
