MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend swimming and diving team finished in second place in 10 out of 16 events but fell to Allegheny 147-110 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) and the reigning AMCC Swimmer of the Week Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) were the individual winners for the Lions. Simon touched first in the 100 backstroke (54.07) and Kost followed in second (58.46). Kost then won the 200 IM in the second to last event with a time of 2:03.47.

In addition to a first-place finish, Simon had three second-place finishes on the day. He was narrowly beat in the 50 free (22.12) and 100 butterfly (55.13). Kost was the top swimmer in the 200 backstroke (2:05.42), taking second overall. Both Simon and Kost joined Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Kenton Matthaei (Madison, NJ/Madison) for second in the 200 free relay (1:32.00).

Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) had three individual second-place finishes for Behrend. He hit the wall in 52.09 in the 100 freestyle, 1:57.06 in the 200 freestyle and 2:17.29 in the 200 IM for runner up. Torre, and Lloyd Koester (Edinboro, PA/General McLane), Eric Matteson (Corry, PA/Corry) and Matthaei teamed up for second in the opening 400 medley relay.

Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) paced Behrend in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:17.51, good enough for second.

Roth was the top finisher in the 500 free for the Lions, clocking in at 5:15.09 for second. He also was third in the 200 freestyle and butterfly.

Individually, Matteson led Behrend in the breaststroke events. He was second in the 200 with a time of 2:27.57 and third in the 100 (1:06.35).

The Lions return to action in two weeks against Baldwin Wallace. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
