Golden Knights Too Much For Lions

ERIE, Pa. – Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) was an individual winner for the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team that lost a 160-75 decision to Division II Gannon on Tuesday night in the Junker Center Pool.

The two teams competed in a spin-off of a traditional meet to break the monotony before heading into the break.

Simon won 50 backstroke with three seconds to spare over Ryan Carter from Gannon. He touched in 23.81 for the victory. He also took second in the 100 IM with a time of 54.05.

The Lions were also victorious in the 300 breaststroke relay. Victor Nguyen (San Jose, Ca/Evergreen Valley), Eric Matteson (Corry, PA/Corry) and Scott Romanko (Plum, Pa/Plum) had a winning time of 3:15.78.

In the 300 butterfly relay, Ted Dean (Ramona, Ca/Ramona), Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) combined for a time of 3:04.06 to place second.

Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) and Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) were second and third, respectively, in the 50 free. Torre led with a time of 23.57 and Elder was exactly a second behind in 24.57. Torre was also second in the 100 freestyle, just one second shy of the win in 51.58.

Roth was .15 second behind the winner in the 50 butterfly, finishing in 25.53 for second out of six swimmers. He then came in third following Torre in the 100 freestyle with a close time of 52.01.

The final two relays for Behrend came in second. Simon, Torre and Kost tallied a time of 2:51.30 in the 300 backstroke relay and Simon, Justin Seeley (North East, PA/North East), Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Elder finished runner up in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.16).

The Lions return to action on Friday, December 6 at the three-day Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational.
