Behrend Handles Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) won two individual events and swam a leg on the winning relay to lead Penn State Behrend past Penn State Altoona in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) men's swimming and diving action on Saturday.

The Lions won eight of 11 events to defeat the Lions, 124-79. Roth was first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.16) and the 100 butterfly (56.41). He also joined Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford), Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) and Ted Dean (Ramona, CA/Ramona) for the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.59).

In the 1000 freestyle, Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) won in 10:41.18. Simon clocked in with a winning time of 22.00 in the 50 free, while Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) won the 100 free (51.05).

Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) had a pair of second-place finishes, first in the 200 free (1:53.44) and the other in the 100 free (51.59).

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was first in the 100 backstroke (58.19) and was also second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.03.

Justin Seeley (North East, PA/North East) and Garrett Wagner (State College, PA/State College) took second in the final two individual events. Seeley was runner up in the 500 free (5:39.84) and Wagner was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.70).

Behrend finished with a win in the 200 free relay. Simon led off and was followed by Elder, Dean and Kost for a time of 1:33.10.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 18 at Washington & Jefferson. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
