St. Vincent Defeats Men's Swimming and Diving

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving fell to St. Vincent 158-104 in non-conference action on Saturday in the Junker Center Pool.

Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA / Penn Trafford) was the lone winner for the Lions on the day. He posted the top time in the 100 backstroke (52.21) and 200 backstroke (1:57.96).

Behrend had many second-place finishes, including three by Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), two by Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin).

Kost had the top Behrend time in the 200 freestyle (1:53.90) and placed second behind Simon the 200 backstroke (2:04.21). He also was runner up in the 200 IM (2:04.65). Nguyen led the Lions in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:03.17 and 2:24.60, respectively, for second overall.

Roth had the fastest Behrend timed in the 100 and 200 butterfly. He touched in 57.20 in the shorter event and 2:04.69 in the longer.

In the 50 free, Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) was less than a second away from winning with a time of 23.58.

The Lions had two relays finish second. In the opening 200 medley relay of Simon, Roth, Ty Elder (Brentwood, Ca/Heritage) and Eric Matteson (Corry, PA/Corry) gathered a time of 1:40.81. That time was .02 seconds off first place.

Simon, Roth, Elder and Torre made up the 400 freestyle relay that clocked in at 3:24.02 for second place.

Behrend returns to action on Thursday, February 13 at the AMCC Championships hosted by Grove City.
