Patterson Shines Against Westminster

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team dropped a 170-123 decision to Westminster in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Titans have now on the last six meetings between the two teams.

Mark Patterson (North Hungtindon, PA/Norwin) won three individual events for the Lions (0-1). He claimed first in the 100 backstroke (53.45), 200 backstroke (1:59.65) and 500 freestyle (4:56.63).

Blake Bachner (Freeport, PA/Kiski) was a double winner in the diving events for Behrend. He won the first 1-meter diving competition with a score of 139.10. In the six-dives at the one-meter board later in the meet, Bachner won with a score of 185.55.

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) the last lone winner on the day. He led in the 200 IM with the fastest time of 2:02.94. He also was second in the 1000 free (10:47.55) and was just two seconds off the leader. Kost had another runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay to start the meet. He joined Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro), Jeremy Brosius (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and Nick Snyder (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) for a time of 1:42.65.

Snyder then led the Lions in the 100 free with a time of 50:34 and Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) was third in 52.41. Carson was the top finisher in the 100 breaststroke, taking second in 1:04.86.

In the 200 freestyle, Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) clocked in with a time of 1:54.87 for second and Nathan Burak (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell) took third  (1:55.87). 

In the last 200 events (butterfly and breaststroke), Behrend took second and third, respectively. Roth led in the 200 fly (2:07.79) with Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) on his heels for third (2:07.81). Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) grabbed third in the breaststroke (2:26.31).

In the final 400 free relay, Patterson, Snyder, Siggins and Roth made up the second-place team with a time of 3:21.86.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday, November 7 against Chatham. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
