Men's Swimming and Diving Defeat Baldwin Wallace

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won nine of the 13 events to defeat Baldwin Wallace 130-80 on Saturday afternoon in the Junker Center Pool.

Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Blake Bachner (Freeport, PA/Kiski) won two individual events apiece to lead the Lions on the day. Patterson led in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.66 and also won the 100 backstroke in 54.65.

Bachner was the top diver, winning the one-meter board with a score of 188.80 and then taking first on the three-meter board (169.35).

In the first individual event of the day, Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) paced Behrend with a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:54.58).

The Lions went 1-2 in the 50 free. Justin Spence (Houston, TX/Cy-Fair) won with a time of 23.53 and Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) was a close second in 23.66.

In the 400 IM, Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was first with a time of 4:21.96. Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) won the next two events for Behrend.

Powell touched first in the 100 butterfly (57.21) and Myers was victorious in the 100 freestyle (50.98). Spence took third in the 100 free two seconds behind Myers in 52.15.

The Lions got a second-place finish out of Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.23, while the 400 medley relay team was runner up in 3:52.26. Kost, Powell, Nathan Burak (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell) and Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) are the four that made up the relay.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Penn State Altoona. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
