Lions On Top After Day One of AMCC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won five of the six events on day one of the 2016 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships hosted by Grove City College.

The Lions had 11 AMCC Champions spanning over those five events and many other great performances in the water to hold a 64-point lead over Cabrini for first place (106). Pitt-Bradford is two points away from second with 40 and Penn State Altoona is fourth (21).

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) collected his second straight AMCC title in the 200 IM. This year, he not only repeated as champion but he dropped 1.8 seconds to earn individual winner of the entire meet, winning with a top time of 1:55.71.

Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) and Nathan Wagner (Ypsilanti, MI/Lincoln) were third and fourth in the AMCC, respectively in the 200 IM. Elsey clocked in at 2:04.03 and Wagner tallied a time of 2:06.40.

Behrend had another threesome dominate on the night. Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) led a 1, 2, 4 finish for his third AMCC title in the 500 free. He posted a winning time of 4:46.42 for sixth overall. Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was runner-up in 4:47.63 and seventh overall, while Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) claimed fourth (4:55.52) in the conference.

The third individual AMCC champion was Nick Snyder (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) in the 50 free. His time of 22.12 was good for gold and sixth overall.

The Lions also claimed the two relays, starting with the 200 free relay. Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage), Snyder, Wagner and Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley). These AMCC Champions touched in 1:29.47 and placed fifth overall.

The 400 medley relay team was also successful. The foursome (no names provided at time of results) had a winning time of 3:33.07, nine seconds faster than second place. This squad also finished fourth overall.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
