Patterson Hits NCAA B Cut; Lions Extend Lead at AMCC Championships

Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) hit an NCAA ‘B ’cut time in the 100 backstroke for first place, helping the Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team extend their lead at the AMCC Championships on Friday night.

ERIE, Pa. – Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) hit an NCAA 'B 'cut time in the 100 backstroke for first place, helping the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team extend their lead at the 2019 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Friday night.

Men's Scores: 1. Penn State Behrend (593), 2. Alfred State (288), 3. Pitt-Bradford (162), 4. Penn State Altoona (149), 5. SUNY Delhi (83)

Noteworthy:

* Patterson won his first-ever individual AMCC championship in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.08
* Chase Bietz (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield Area) set a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 57.11 to break the record of 57.51 set back in 2014
* Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin), Charlie Nesbit (Grove City, PA/Grove City), Matt Karenbauer (Butler, PA/Knoch) and Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) were named AMCC Champions in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.03, five seconds faster than second place.
* Karenbauer then led the Lions in the 100 butterfly, claiming the gold medal in 52.58
* Coming off his first AMCC title in the 50 free, Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Fairview) won his second individual championship in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.62
* Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) took runner up in the 400 IM, falling by .15 seconds to Ethan Dale of Alfred State with a time of 4:17.79
