Lions Dominate Day Two to Keep Lead at Oberlin Invite

GAMBIER, Ohio. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team remains in first place with a 93.5 edge over second place Ashland after the second day at the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday.

Key Moments:

* The Behrend Lions have a total of 845.5 points and continue to stay out in front
* Chase Bietz (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep), Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Parkland) won the 200 freestyle relay with the third best time in program history at 1:24.69
* Bietz then nearly broke his 200 IM with a first-place finish and falling short of the record by .04 seconds with a time of 1:53.91
* Bietz also placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.05 for 28 points
* Fischer and Croll were the duo that advanced to the 50 freestyle finals for the Lions. Fischer won the event with a personal-best time of 21.42 and Croll placed third (21.74), also a personal best
* Fischer won a second event on the night for Behrend. The senior won the 100 freestyle with a personal-best time of 46.89 and third best in program history
* Matt Karenbauer (Butler, PA/Knoch) also took home gold on the evening, registering a top time of 1:56.77 in the 200 butterfly
* James Connolly (Allentown, PA/Parkland) led the way for Behrend in the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:47.83 for fourth place. Schmidt took fifth in the same event (4:48.79)
* In the 200 backstroke, Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin) took first on the team and fifth overall with a time of 1:59.81
* The Lions ended the night with another first-place finish, this time in the 400 medley relay. Watterson, Bietz, Karenbauer and Fischer swam for a 3:29.89 time to earn 64 points and keep the lead over Ashland

* The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Oberlin Invite. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. and finals start at 6 p.m.
