Men's Swimming Front Runners After Day One of Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team is in the lead with 205 points after day one of the 2020 Allegheny Empire Championships hosted by Hartwick College at the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday night.  

AMCC Men's Scores: 1. Penn State Behrend (205), 2. Alfred State (104), 3. Penn State Altoona (74), 4. Pitt-Bradford (36), 5. SUNY Delhi (29)

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Nazareth (430) 2. Penn State Behrend (323) 3. Hartwick (318) 4. Alfred University (285) 5. Alfred State (163) 6. Utica (92). 7. Penn State Altoona (90) 8. Pitt-Bradford (54) 9. Suny Delhi Broncos (40)

Noteworthy:

* The Lions crowned three individual champions on the night, winning three out of the five events
* Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Fairview) defended his AMCC title in the 50 free, touching first in 21.29. That time was good for fourth overall against the Empire 8 times
* Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) was second in the AMCC in the same event (21.78) and fifth overall. Croll beat his time from last year's championships by a 10 hundredths of a second
* Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin) claimed their first AMCC Championships in the 500 freestyle and 200 IM, respectively
* Schmidt had a winning time of 4:42.65 for first in the AMCC and was third overall
* Watterson was the top finisher in the 200 IM (1:58.30) while four other Behrend swimmers finished in the Top 6
* The Behrend Lions finished second in the 200 medley relay time in 1:37.13 (no names provided)
