Behrend Men's Swimming Extends Lead at AMCC Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team continues to grow their lead after day two of the 2020 Allegheny Empire Championships hosted by Hartwick College at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday night.  

AMCC Men's Scores: 1. Penn State Behrend (403), 2. Alfred State (230), 3. Penn State Altoona (182), 4. Pitt-Bradford (81), 5. SUNY Delhi (78)

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Nazareth (840) 2. Hartwick (672) 3. Penn State Behrend (656) 4. Alfred University (532)  5. Alfred State (383) 6. Penn State Altoona (274), 7. Utica (210) 8. Suny Delhi Broncos (127) 9. Pitt-Bradford (124)

Noteworthy:

* The Lions nearly doubled their points from day one to hold a 173-point lead over Alfred State
* Behrend stayed out in front after two days of competition, winning two events during the finals
* The 200 free relay team of Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt), Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep), Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Fairview) and Justin Heller (Franklin, PA/Rocky Grove) won the AMCC title in 1:25.56
* That same relay was second overall for the entire championship
* The only individual medal of the night went to Matt Karenbauer (Butler, PA/Knoch) in the 100 butterfly
* Karenbauer defended the title he won last year, this season with a time of 52.59 for the AMCC crown and fifth overall
* Schmidt led the Lions in the 200 freestyle, taking home silver with a time of 1:42.44. He edged teammate Fischer, who had the fastest time coming out of the prelims in the morning at 1:42.23
* Schmidt was also second overall, while Fischer was third for both the AMCC and combined meet (1:43.01)
* Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) claimed third in the 400 IM, leading the way for the Lions. He also took seventh overall with a time of 4:25.67
* The 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay started and ended the night, respectively
* Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin), Jacob Eshelman (Franklin, PA/Franklin), Karenbauer and Fischer made up the second-place 400 medley relay team that also took fourth overall in 3:32.13

5th - Thaddeus Johnson (Brookville, PA/Brookville) – 4:46.00
