Lions Win 14th Straight AMCC Championship

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team continue to dominant the AMCC Championships with their 14th straight title on Saturday, earned at the 2020 Allegheny Empire Championships on Saturday night.   

AMCC Men's Scores: 1. Penn State Behrend (774), 2. Alfred State (458), 3. Penn State Altoona (363), 4. Pitt-Bradford (131), 5. SUNY Delhi (119)

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Nazareth (1482) 2. Hartwick (1374) 3. Penn State Behrend (1251) 4. Alfred University (1179) 5. Alfred State (762) 6. Penn State Altoona (549), 7. Utica (393) 8. Pitt-Bradford (210) 9. Suny Delhi Broncos (192)

Noteworthy:

* The Lions won three of the five events, extending their large lead to secure the AMCC Crown
* Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Fairview) was a two-time repeat champion on the night, winning the 100 freestyle and then swimming a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay
* Fischer swam a time of 47.05 in the 100 freestyle for gold and also took 4th overall
* Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) as close behind in second in the AMCC and fifth overall (47.49)
* James Connolly (Allentown, PA/Parkland) not only won first place in the AMCC, he also posted the best time in the entire competition in the 1605 freestyle
* Connolly touched in 16:26.70 to win, followed by Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) in second place and fourth overall (16:37.62)
* Jacob Eshelman (Franklin, PA/Franklin) led six swimmers to finish in the Top 10 in the 200 breaststroke
* Eshelman was first in a time of 2:11.21 (placing third overall) and Connolly had the next best time in 2:12.23
* In the 200 backstroke, Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin) had the best Behrend time for second place (1:54.63)
* Fischer, Croll, Eshelman and Schmidt teamed up for the final relay of the weekend
* The foursome earned first in the 400 freestyle relay with a  time of 3:07.25, good enough for second overall
