Men's Swimming Sits Second at AMCC Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team is in second place after day one of the 2022 Allegheny Empire Championships hosted by Nazareth College at the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday night.  

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Alfred State (150), 2. Nazareth (139), 3. Hartwick (122), 4. Alfred (114), 5. Penn State Behrend (112), 6. Penn State Altoona (44), 7. Utica (32), 8. Pitt-Bradford (30)

Noteworthy:

* The Behrend Lions accumlated 112 points to rank fifth in the combined standings and are second among the AMCC teams
* The Lions competed in two relays on the night, winning the 800 yard freestyle relay
* Jake Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep), Jacob Eshelman (Franklin, PA/Franklin), Matt Karenbauer (Butler, PA/Knoch) and Tim Compton (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) combined for the win
* The foursome swam 6:56.10 to defeat nine other relays to be named AMCC Champions
* Karenbauer and Compton also joined James Connolly (Allentown, PA/Parkland0 and Justin Heller (Franklin, PA/Rocky Grove) in the finals opening 200 medley relay
* The quartet touched in 1:36.33 for fifth overall

Next Up:

* Behrend returns to the water tomorrow for day two of the AMCC Empire Championships. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
