Compton, Tumino Break Records; Men's Swimming and Diving Stays Third at AMCC Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – Tim Compton (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) broke four records and was named AMCC Champion in the 500 freestyle on day two of the 2023 Allegheny Empire Championships hosted by Nazareth College at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday night.  

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Alfred State (442), 2. Hartwick (340), 3. Penn State Behrend (322), 4. Alfred (307.50), 5. Nazareth (201), 6. Penn State Altoona (188.50), 7. Pitt-Bradford (106), 8. Utica (94)

Noteworthy:

* Compton broke the meet record he set last year, the AMCC meet and open record and the Behrend team record with a time of 4:33.34
* Compton repeats as champion in the 500 freestyle for his first gold medal of the meet
* The Lions remain in third place after day two with a score of 322
* Anthony Tumino (Hershey, PA/Hershey) broke the team record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.02
* Tumino edged Dan Simon's time set in 2013 by one hundredths of a second for third place in the 50 free
* Jacob Eshelman (Franklin, PA/Franklin) and Jacob Earley (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) claimed third place in individual events
* Eshelman swam 1:56.21 in the 200 IM to lead the Lions, while Earley was third on the three-meter board
* Earley recorded a score of 348.45, the fifth-best score for 11 dives in the freshman Top 10 performances
* Finishing the night was Tumino, Eshelman, Jax Abele (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and Dan Tanaskovic (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) in the 200 freestyle relay
* The foursome touched in 1:25.97 for second place

* Behrend returns to the water tomorrow for day three of the AMCC Empire Championships. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
