Penn State Behrend Men’s Tennis Reveals 2010 Team Award Winners

The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team recently revealed their 2010 team award winners for the past season.  The Behrend men's tennis team award winners are chosen by a vote of team members.

Junior Elliot Blackstone took home the honor of team Most Valuable Player. Blackstone (Wexford/Pine Richland) continued his dominance of the conference this year and earned himself another First-Team selection and a third straight Player of the Year honor.  Blackstone would be the number one seed in singles and doubles in the conference tournament and did not disappoint with a 7-6, 6-0 victory to capture the singles title and teamed with Chris Galvin (Erie/McDowell) to take the doubles title with a score of 8-3.

Most Improved player went to sophomore Peter Bissert (Pittsburgh/Seton LaSalle).  Bissert put in a great season for the Behrend Lions and was rewarded with First-Team selections in both singles and doubles play.  Bissert would defeat Scott Pickrell of Penn State Altoona, 6-4, 6-0, to take the title in singles and would go on to team up with Mosier to take the doubles title by a final of 8-6.

Galvin would be rewarded for his great play throughout the season with the honor of Rookie of the Year.  Only a freshman, Galvin would produce a great first season and saw himself be named the AMCC Newcomer of the Year and a First-Team selection in number one doubles.  The freshman gained valuable experience by playing with Blackstone in some big matches including the AMCC doubles championship.

The leadership and scholarship award winner went to senior Brad Nagel (West Alexander/McGuffey).  Nagel was a leader from the day he stepped into the program and produced not only on the court, but off as well.  He was an AMCC All-Academic performer and was a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha.

The Penn State Behrend Lions have won the AMCC title three straight years which adds to the collection from 1998 and 2004.  The blue and white had an overall record of 17-7 and an AMCC mark of 9-1.  The Behrend Lions won the crown this year with 22 total points which was three better than second place.
