Ando Named AMCC Newcomer of the Year; Seven Earn All-Conference

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Taimi Ando (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) has been named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Men's Tennis Newcomer of the Year and is just one of seven selected to the All-Conference Team, announced on Tuesday.

Head coach Jeff Barger also earned his sixth AMCC Coach of the Year Award for leading the Lions to their sixth conference championship and first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Ando finished the regular season with an 11-7 record at No. 1 singles for Behrend and teamed with junior Chris Galvin (Erie, PA/McDowell) to be named First-Team All-AMCC for winning the No. 1 doubles title.

Galvin is not only a first-team choice in doubles, but also in singles at the No. 2 spot. He led the Lions at second singles with a 6-2 record, before winning his first individual title at the championships. Galvin was also named AMCC Newcomer of the Year in 2010.

Lerdlarp Jaturapol (Bangkok, Thailand/Palmerslon) and Mason Marion (Ellwood City, PA/Riverside) were chosen to the first team after capturing singles championships at the No. 4 and 5 spot, respectively.  The pair teamed up for second-team honors at No. 2 doubles, after finishing in second place at the conference tournament.

Alex Prichard (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Raphael Bretz (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) won their first doubles championship in the third spot to be named to the first team. Freshman Carson Emili (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) rounded out the awards as a second-team choice at No. 6 singles.
