Lions Defeat D'Youville; Fall to Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team defeated D'Youville 7-2 Friday night and then fell to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, 9-0.

The Lions opened up conference play for their first match of the spring, only surrendering one singles and one doubles game for the win.

Behrend swept the No. 2 through the No. 6 singles games. David Buiter (London, England/IMG Academies) and Max Morrow (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) each swept their opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Christian Ponce (Guatemala City, Guatemala / SEK-International School), playing in the third spot, defeated Nick Holmes by only giving up one set, 6-1, 6-0.

In fourth singles, Nick Kapty (Monongahela, PA / Ringgold) had a close first set at 7-5 and then blanked Ignatius Golombek 6-0 in the second game for the win.

Brett Palmer (North East, PA / North East) was able to down Phil Jank 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles for Behrend.

In doubles, Buiter and Matthew Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern) were 8-1 winners at No. 1 doubles and Kapty teamed with Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA / Westmont Hilltop) for an identical win at third doubles.

The Lions return to action on tomorrow against Elmira at 3 p.m. at Westwood Racquet Club.
