Men's Tennis Defeats Mt. Aloysius
The Penn State Behrend men’s tennis team won all three doubles and four singles competition to defeat Mt. Aloysius 7-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Sunday afternoon.
CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team won all three doubles and four singles competition to defeat Mt. Aloysius 7-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Sunday afternoon.
Matthew Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern), Andre Robert (San Jose, Costa Rica/PAS), Christian Ponce (Guatemala City, Guatemala/SEK-International School) and Aaron Barraclough (Brockway, PA/Brockway) were all double winners for the Lions (4-8, 3-2 AMCC).
Robert and Johnson collected the win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 score, before Nick Kapty (Monongahela, PA/Ringgold) and Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) earned an 8-2 decision at second doubles.
Ponce and Barraclough helped Behrend take a 3-0 lead into singles play with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Robert, at No. 1 singles, tallied an impressive win at 6-0 and 6-1. Johnson also held his opponent scoreless but in the second set, winning 6-3, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Ponce recorded a three-set victory while Barraclough defeated Jake Aravich in two sets.
Against Penn State Altoona yesterday in AMCC action, the Behrend Lions fell, 8-1. Johnson earned the lone victory for the Lions with a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Houghton. The match begins at 4 p.m. at Westwood Racquet Club.
