Men's Tennis Topples Thiel

ERIE, Pa. – Andre Robert (San Jose, Costa Rica/PAS), Matthew Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern) and Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) each swept their opponents in singles play to help the Penn State Behrend men's tennis team defeat Thiel, 7-2.
The Lions (6-8) won five singles matches and two doubles for the non-conference win on Tuesday afternoon.
David Buiter (London, England/IMG Academies) was the lone double winner on the day for Behrend, picking up victories at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-1) and then at No. 2 doubles with George Tomoiga (Reading, PA/Wilson), 8-4.
Robert and Johnson posted 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Palmer earned the win in the fifth spot.
Christian Ponce (Guatemala City, Guatemala / SEK-International School) only gave up two set points in a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot.
Aaron Barraclough (Brockway, PA/Brockway) and Max Morrow (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) collected an 8-2 at No. 3 doubles, helping the Lions take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles competition.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday in the AMCC Tournament Semifinals against Penn State Altoona, beginning at 6 p.m.
