Men's Tennis Handles Geneva

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team defeated Geneva 7-2 in the season opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (1-0) swept the doubles matches before winning four of the six singles matches for the first victory of the year. Mike Russell and Nick Kapty posted an 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Aaron Baraclough and Christian Ponce tallied an 8-6 decision at No. 2.

Brent McFarland and Chris Heintz recorded an 8-2 win for the doubles sweep at the No. 3 spot.

Russell, also playing at No. 1 singles, earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Kapty was also a double winner with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles. Jeremy Burnheimer and Brett Palmer rounded out the singles wins for Behrend. Burnheimer won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Palmer contributed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Behrend returns to action on Thursday at Nazareth. Game time is 4 p.m.
